Ballet Recital presented by The Australasian Society of Operatic Dancing (Brisbane Branch)
November 1st, 1948 — November 2nd, 1948
The Brisbane Branch of the Australasian Society for Operatic Dancing produced this extensive ballet recital in November 1948. Series of items were presented by students from well known Brisbane Dance Schools, directed and choreographed by their Principals Miss Pat Mead, Miss Daphne Sapsford, Miss Phyllis Danaher, Misses Nell & Joy Bassett and Miss Elsie Seaguss.
Just before interval the Australasian Society introduced to the audience two talented, prizewinning dancers Maia O'Dowd winner of Elementary Scholarship, and Patricia Macdonald winner of Overseas Scholarship. Maia performed a Classical Solo and Patricia danced The Village Belle.
Performing several solos in the program was Miss Danaher's pupil, a young Garth Welch. He was to go on to have a stellar career in ballet but never forgot his early training and his first teacher.
